Pergole Torte, Sangiovese, Montevertine, 2016

The 2016 Le Pergole Torte is widely considered a "unicorn" vintage of this legendary wine. Produced by Montevertine in the high-altitude hills of Radda in Chianti, it represents the absolute pinnacle of 100% Sangiovese.

While the estate is located in the heart of Chianti Classico, the wine is labelled as Toscana IGT because the founder, Sergio Manetti, famously broke away from the DOCG rules in the 1980s to maintain the purity of Sangiovese without the then-required addition of other grapes.
